SEGRO – Road Safety campaign 2008/09

In 2008, a road safety campaign was devised by SEGRO, in conjunction with Rochdale’s Road Safety Department, to inform children about dangers on the roads.

The initiative was an art-based ‘Design a Poster’ competition with a theme incorporating road safety awareness. To add interest, SEGRO joined up with the Heywood Advertiser and worked with a local artist, Alison Kelly, who carried out poster making/ print workshops in school with the children.

Rochdale Road Safety Officers came into the children’s classes and delivered a road safety talk.

Working with the children, the artist helped them to create designs using various techniques. The
children were introduced to new designs and printing techniques not usually carried out in schools, that also incorporated the key elements of the talk given by the safety officer.

A total of three prizes were awarded for the best poster designs, picked by a panel made up of SEGRO, the Heywood Advertiser, Heywood Distribution Park and Roland Dransfield PR. The winning artists were given vouchers of their choice to spend. In addition, all schools that took part in the road safety campaign were awarded money to spend on road safety equipment of their choice for the children.
